PLAYGROUND COVERS

Each year, more than 200,000* U.S. children go to hospital emergency rooms with injuries associated with playgrounds. Most injuries occur when a child falls from the equipment onto the ground. Many injuries can be prevented by providing a protective ground covering under the equipment. Mulch is one of the accepted products to help cushion the fall. Yard Works has a wide variety of mulches with the two most popular for playgrounds being Soft One and Playground Chips.

Soft One (Certified)

Soft One is a Certified Engineered Wood Fiber that will help reduce impact of a fall. Soft One meets the American Standard for Testing and Material (ASTM) Specification for the Impact Attenuation and Wheelchair Accessible as required by the American Disability Act (ADA). Soft One can help protect children from injury while enhancing the appearance of the playground.

Play Ground Chips (Non-Certified)

Yard Works also offers a non-certified Play Ground Chips. Play Ground Chips are less expensive, made from all natural debarked hardwood logs. The chips are dust free, may vary in size and won’t stick to clothing like other mulches. When installed at the suggested depth, Play Ground Chips will add a shock absorbing surface which can help reduce injury on a playground.
